Many of these have been saved and recovered throughout the years. Between those two dates, the game saw nearly a dozen in-development preview builds released to the public and hundreds of videos and pictures. The game first began its development cycle on the 5th of August, 2012, and was finally released on October 5th, 2017. The game was a commercial success, selling over 50,000 copies in the first two weeks, and passing one million copies by December of 2018. Once the developers polish up those bugs, it has the potential to be a solid platformer.A Hat in Time is a 2017 platformer game released by Gears for Breakfast for Mac, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and later Nintendo Switch. If you get the chance to play the beta or the full game when its released you should really check it out, especially if you are a fan of 3D platformers like those that I mentioned. Specific characters have no voice acting, and their models look rough, but it makes it feel like developer, Gears For Breakfast has at least been honest with the backers and provided a demonstration of what its currently got to offer.ĭespite the problems, the game is still playable and all in all, it seems really promising.

This is where I spawned into the level - I fell into the water under the level shortly after taking this screenshotĪ Hat In Time is the first beta I’ve ever played that felt it wasn’t just a polished demo to advertise it. Unfortunately, there are a lot of glitches and bugs and it’s unfair to not mention them. Sometimes stuff like this happens though. These include many fun power-ups in the form of gadgets, hats and badges to stick on said hats. This is helped by using a huge number of tools that the game provides you with.

The movement is smooth and with enough practice (or skill) you can get around the worlds really quickly. To do so she must travel to different parts of the world, searching high and low throughout the game’s multiple areas. Much like the both the 3D Mario games and Banjo Kazooie, there are multiple objectives to undertake in each area. While the assumption is that there will eventually be a whole heap of hourglasses to collect in the finished game, so far the developers have added in only 10 or so.ĭespite the clearly unfinished nature of the Beta, the developers have done a pretty good job of taking elements from the aforementioned games while still providing their own unique flavor. You play as a girl named Hat Kid on a mission to find an hourglass collection that she needs for her spaceship to time travel (or something like that). The game has a visual style similar to Wind Waker, which looks pretty good in my opinion
